Penn State Wilkes-Barre has announced the winners of the 2022 Celebration of Scholarship, an annual competition that promotes and encourages undergraduate research. The event allows faculty and students at the campus to present their current research, scholarship and artistic endeavors.
Will Beekman, general manager at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre and a member of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Advisory Board, has been named as commencement speaker for the Class of 2022, Interim Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Lynda Goldstein announced. Commencement will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the Athletic & Recreation Building.
Yuri Pelepko-Filak, who recently took a managerial position at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, credits his nursing management certificate from Penn State Wilkes-Barre with preparing him for his new role. Pelepko-Filak earned a promotion shortly after completing the certificate program.
A gift from father and son Robert Tambur and Robert Tamburro will create the first program endowment to help fund Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s IDEA Hub, which supports innovation and entrepreneurship in northeastern Pennsylvania.
The first military program fund at Penn State Wilkes-Barre has been created through a gift from alumnus and advisory board member Jim Regan and his wife, Barbara. Their $25,000 gift will provide vital funding for enriching experiences for military and veteran students at the campus.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre has announced the students named to its fall 2021 dean’s list. To be eligible, undergraduate students must achieve a one-semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Researchers from Penn State Wilkes-Barre will present their findings from a national study examining the link between happiness and crime, on Friday, Feb. 25, at 12:15 p.m. The Research Showcase Series event will be held in the Tech Center 101 Auditorium and is open to the campus community and the public.
A group of surveying engineering students and faculty from Penn State Wilkes-Barre had the opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors’ annual conference, held from Jan. 23 to 26 in Hershey. The conference was attended by more than 500 surveyors and industry leaders from throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.
