Disability Services

Disability Statement

It is the intention of Penn State University to provide equal access to students with disabilities as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Students with disabilities are encouraged to take advantage of the support services provided to help them successfully meet the high academic standards of the university.

Students with documented disabilities attending Penn State University have access to a wide array of support services. Students who self-identify and provide the appropriate documentation to the Disability Services staff can receive assistance in arranging for reasonable accommodations and appropriate academic adjustments that are determined on a case-by-case basis. However, it is the responsibility of the student to request and follow through on the use of necessary accommo-dations. It is our philosophy that students with disabilities need to develop self-advocacy skills in order to become independent and self-determining individuals. To that end, students are provided with support in the development of these skills.

In order to access services and reasonable accommodations, students are required to submit documentation that meets the guidelines established by the University. All disability-related records are strictly confidential and will not be released without the written permission of the student.

Please feel free to contact a disability liaison (listed on right) with any questions or requests for assistance.
