Penn State alumni and longtime supporters Ed and Judy Lucy, who previously committed an estate gift and an annual award to support Penn State Wilkes-Barre, have continued their commitment by the creation of the Samuel J. and Ruth Valick Family Scholarship with a gift of $50,000. The scholarship will give preference to students who have served or are serving in the United States military and who are majoring or plan to major in criminal justice.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre students gathered to honor military veterans with two special events, one to raise awareness of issues veterans may face and one to break ground for a special veterans’ memorial on campus.
Special Agent Michael Byrnes, senior team leader of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Evidence Response Team – Philadelphia, recently visited Penn State Wilkes-Barre to conduct a presentation for a forensic science class.
Earlier in 2021, in response to the pandemic and no spring break, Penn State implemented several formal Wellness Days in order to give students, faculty and staff the opportunity to attend to their physical and emotional wellness. Many wellness efforts continue across Penn State, in administrative and academic units, at colleges and campuses, and even in individual courses.
Victoria Vespico, a student at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, was crowned Miss Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2022 during the NEPA Scholarship Competition Association’s pageant and will compete for the title of Miss Pennsylvania in June.
In alignment with the recent announcement from the White House on federal vaccination requirements, all Penn State employees at all locations are now subject to a federal COVID-19 vaccination requirement. The deadline for employees to receive their final dose of a vaccine is Jan. 4, 2022
Arts at Hayfield will host the 32nd annual Homespun Holiday Craft Show on Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Athletic and Recreation Building.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will host a blood drive on campus on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The event will benefit the campus’ fundraising efforts for THON.
