PSU Wilkes-Barre Baseball Wins Both Against PSU Worthington Scranton

After a doubleheader victory against Penn State Hazleton, the Mountain Lions picked up two more wins against Penn State Worthington Scranton Friday afternoon. In game one Wilkes-Barre won 5-3; Sherry, Portugal, Carter, Weiss and Meyers all picked up a run on the day and K. Meyers, J. Carter and N. Myers all recorded an RBI. In game two they went on to defeat Worthington Scranton by a huge victory of 16-3. Rambus, Parchinski, Gulbierz (2), Walker, Carter, Weiss (2), Zionce, Sherry (2), Osorio, Portugal, and Meyers (3) scored to soar over their opponent.

Baseball Sweeps Double Header vs. PSU Hazleton

Wilkes-Barre swept Penn State Hazleton on Thursday afternoon, 15-8 and 6-0. In the first game of the day, the Mountain Lions had an impressive game and showed some great talent on the field. Left fielder Lance Sherry and shortstop Jeffrey Carter each had three runs in the game, while center fielder Richard Portugal, third baseman Tyler Weiss, and first baseman Devon Mazonkey all scored twice. In game two, runs by Sherry, Portugal, Meyers, Mazonkey, and Carter (2) led the Mountain Lions to shut out PSU Hazleton.

2014 Athletics Wall of Fame Inductees Announced

Penn State Wilkes-Barre is proud to announce the 2014 inductees into its Athletics Wall of Fame: Jeanette (Faux) Siegel, Jerry Greeley, Quantel Howard, and Bryan Yagel. Each individual will be recognized at the annual SGA Leadership and Athletic Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 1st. The Athletics Wall of Fame was established in 2009 to honor former student-athletes, coaches, and contributors who have played an integral part in the growth and success of Penn State Wilkes-Barre athletics. Penn State Wilkes-Barre Baseball Drops Both at Penn State York

On the road at Penn State York, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Mountain Lions lost both games of the afternoon's doubleheader. In game one they lost by a score of 10-0, with the only hits of the game by Meyers (2B), Portugal (CF), Korea (C), and Stimmel (P). In game two they were defeated 4-2, where left fielder Alec Parchinski scored both of the runs on the day and catcher Matt Korea had one RBI. Penn State Wilkes-Barre currently has a record of 1-9 overall and in the PSUAC.

Wilkes-Barre Splits Games Against Mont Alto

The Mountain Lions split games against Mont Alto, winning the first game of the doubleheader 15-5 and losing the second 12-2. In game one of the day, Weiss and Portugal scored three runs, while Reilly and Sherry had three RBIs and Mazonkey had two. In game two, Portugal and Sherry had the only runs of the game. Penn State Wilkes-Barre holds a record of 1-7 in the PSUAC and 1-7 overall. The Mountain Lions will play next at Penn State York tomorrow, April 13th, at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m.

Close Calls at Penn College

The Mountain Lions had two very close but losing games on Wednesday afternoon at Penn College. In game one they fell 5-4 in 7 innings. LF Lance Sherry, CF Richard Portugal, 3B Tyler Weiss and SS Jeffrey Carter all had one hit on the day, and 2B Kerry Meyers had two. Sherry, Portugal, Carter and RF Alec Parchinski scored the four runs of the day. In game two the team lost 3-1, where first basemen Devon Mazonkey scored on the only run of the game. Shortstop Jeffrey Carter got the recorded RBI on the run.

Wilkes-Barre Baseball Drops Both at Greater Allegheny

The Mountain Lions started the season off with a tough loss on the road at Penn State Greater Allegheny, losing 13-0 in the first matchup. CF Richard Portugal, RF Lance Sherry, and DH Edward Moffett all had one hit on the day. In their second matchup the team fell 11-1; 2B Kerry Meyers had one hit and DH Edward Moffett scored the only run of the game. Penn State will play another double-header at Penn State Beaver on Monday, March 31st at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m.

Wilkes-Barre Defeated at Beaver

On the road at Beaver, Wilkes-Barre dropped both games with scores of 7-3 and 6-1. In game one, Nicholas Myers was up at bat five times and scored all three runs for the Mountain Lions. Tyler Weiss had the only RBI on the day. Penn State will travel to Penn College for another double header on Wednesday, April 9th at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m.

Penn State Wilke-Barre Baseball Preview

The Mountain Lions return nine players from last season's baseball team. All of these men will be looked at for their talent and dedication on and off the field. Junior Mike Tierney was named Academic All American in the PSUAC and USCAA. Sophomore Kerry Meyers, Second Team All Conference, will hold down the infield with his golden glove with a .898 field percentage and leading the team with a batting average of .358 last season.
