Men's Basketball Loses Close Battle with PSUAC Rival Hazleton

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team lost a close battle at home Wednesday night against PSUAC rival Penn State Hazleton. Tied 39-39 at half time, Wilkes-Barre fell to Hazleton 66-72. The loss drops Wilkes-Barre to 5-10 on the season and 3-3 in the PSUAC. Freshmen Drew Walker led Wilkes-Barre with 15 points, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc. Senior Frank Peters added 14 points for Wilkes-Barre.  Wilkes-Barre will next play at home Friday night, January 20th against Penn State DuBois.

Women's Basketball Wins Against PSUAC Rival Penn State Hazleton

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team improved to 3-9 on the season and 2-3 in the PSUAC with a win at home Wednesday night over PSUAC rival Penn State Hazleton. Down 13-16 at half time, Wilkes-Barre battled back to take a 45-41 victory over Hazleton. Sophomore Tiaira Braithwaite led Wilkes-Barre with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Michele Vowler added in 11 points and freshmen Aubrey Wargowsky scored 8 points. Wilkes-Barre will next play Friday night January 20th at home against Penn State DuBois.

Professor Promoted To 4th Degree Master Black Belt

The World Tang Soo Do Association, a Koren martial arts organization, recently promoted Penn State Wilkes-Barre Chemistry Professor, Dr. Dudley Snyder to a 4th Degree Master Black Belt. Dr. Snyder, a member of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre faculty since 1981, has been studying Tang Soo Do for over 35 years, having first taken up martial arts while earning his PhD at Purdue University. "I always had an interest in martial arts but never really felt like I had the time or opportunity to devote time to training until I was at Purdue," says Snyder.

Women's Basketball Falls at Home to Misericordia

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team lost 28-74 at home to Misericordia University on Monday night.  The loss drops Wilkes-Barre to 2-9 on the season and they remain 1-3 in the PSUAC. Sophomore Tiaira Brathwaite led Wilkes-Barre with 10 points and 5 rebounds while sophomore Molly Dincher added 8 points. Wilkes-Barre will next play Wednesday night, January 18th, at home against PSUAC rival Penn State Hazleton.

Men's Basketball Falls to Thadeus Stevens

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team (5-8 overall, 3-2 PSUAC) fell to Thaddeus Stevens 62-68 on Thursday night.  Senior Frank Peters led Wilkes-Barre with 10 points. Junior Travis Dunlap and freshman Jacob Bronder each added 9 points. Freshman Denzel Mensah grabbed 14 rebounds for the team. Wilkes-Barre will next play Wilkes University on Saturday, January 7th at 3:00 pm on the road.

Arts At Hayfield Presents Irene Thomas Memorial Award

Gianna DeGraba, a Penn State Wilkes-Barre sophomore from Dallas, was the recent recipient of the Irene Thomas Memorial Award. This award is sponsored by Arts at Hayfield, a non-profit, community-arts support organization housed at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, and is given to an academically accomplished student who has demonstrated a commitment to the arts.
