The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (1-0) women's basketball team opened up the 2012-2013 season with a great start by getting a solid win against LCCC by a score of 68-56, Tuesday evening in the ARB. Junior Tiaira Brathwaite led the team with a team-high 20 points, while sophomore Aubrey Wargowsky added 14 points and junior Tiffany Denny-Rochester added 10. This trio had an impressive game for the Mountain Lions, combining for 44 out of the team's 68 points. Brathwaite and Denny-Rochester were racking up the rebounds, pulling down 21 and 20 respectively.
Congratulations to Abby Collins, who was named PSUAC Volleyball All-Conference Honorable Mention! Collins showed tremendous leadership all season long for the Lady Mountain Lions.
Congratulations to David Cavalieri and Anthony Aquilina, who were both named to the PSUAC Soccer All-Conference Second Team. Aquilina was solid in the goal all season and Cavalieri led the team with 11 goals.

On Friday, November 9th, join Chancellor Dr. Charles Davis & the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education department for their Executive Management Series, co-sponsored by The Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, Regional Entertainment Investments in the Future: Yankees and Mohegan Sun Arena. The Executive Management Series is held at Best Western Genetti Hotel and Conference Center in Wilkes-Barre, beginning at 7:45 a.m.
On Wednesday, October 17th, Penn State Wilkes-Barre honored 80 students who were awarded scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year at the annual Scholarship Dinner held at Appletree Terrace. This year, Penn State Wilkes-Barre awarded 260 students approximately $530,000 in scholarships.
In addition to students, approximately 35 scholarship donors also attended the dinner. Students were given the opportunity to mingle with their donors during dinner and be able to personally thank them.
On Saturday, September 29th, a team of Penn State Wilkes-Barre engineering students and professors successfully launched a high-altitude balloon 94,625 ft. into the overcast stratosphere.
Vice President of the Engineering Club David Cantoran described the experience as astonishing.
"I believe more people should experience it [the balloon launch]," said Cantoran. "Overall, I would call the launch extremely successful and I enjoyed being part of Dr. Lozano's team."
Alex Leandri was named PSUAC Women's Runner of the Year, and Chris Monahan was named PSUAC Men's Runner of the Year by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon. Emily Pszeniczny was also named to the All-Conference Team.
Alex Leandri decided just one PSUAC Individual Women's Championship wasn't enough, and Chris Monahan won the first PSUAC Individual Men's Cross Country Championship in school history. Leandri won her second straight PSUAC Individual Women's Cross Country Championship with a new course record of 20:37 on the 5k course. Monahan finished the 8k men's race with a time of 29:25. Emily Pszeniczny finished third in the PSUAC on the women's side. The runners will next complete for a USCAA National Championship in Lake Placid, NY on November 9th.
The 12th annual Penn State Wilkes-Barre Engineering Open House was held on Thursday, October 11th. Approximately 120 high-school students attended this event to observe different aspects of the engineering field.
During the opening session of the day, students were welcomed to campus by Chancellor Charles Davis. Dr. Tom Seybert then explained the engineering options at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, as well as the 2+2 programs in engineering.
