Students planning to attend Penn State Wilkes-Barre this fall can get a jump on their education and begin earning credits through Summer Start, offered virtually this summer.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre held its annual Student Government Association Leadership and Athletic Awards on May 7. The awards honor students who show exceptional leadership both inside and outside the classroom through their participation in athletics, clubs and organizations, community service events and leadership programs.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre celebrated its graduates with an online event that included messages from Chancellor Dr. Dale Jones, Associate Chief Academic Officer and Associate Professor of English Lynda Goldstein, valedictorian Jesse Steltz, Advisory Board Chair Rebecca Bartuska and Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Society President Jonathan Sinclair. It also featured video congratulations from Penn State Wilkes-Barre faculty and staff.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre alumnus Ric Struthers and his wife, Sharon, have made a commitment to the campus to help students who may be struggling with challenges related to coronavirus and related shutdowns. The couple, who live in Wilmington, Delaware, are also encouraging other friends of Penn State Wilkes-Barre to join them in supporting this effort through a matching challenge.
On May 13, students at Commonwealth Campuses will be able to select their individual Penn State Go Commonwealth Campus Experience by clicking on the Change App Experience button in the app. Selecting the Campus Experience will allow students to receive important messages and updates to stay connected to what is happening at individual Commonwealth Campuses.
The Penn State alumni family grew by more than 15,000 this past weekend as the University recognized its spring 2020 graduates in a livestreamed commencement ceremony, which took place on Saturday, May 9.

Due to the economic challenges facing Pennsylvania and the nation, Penn State President Eric J. Barron announced plans today (April 23) to freeze tuition rates for all students University-wide for the 2020-21 academic year. The plan, which will be presented to the University’s Board of Trustees for final approval at its July meeting, would mark the third consecutive year that Penn State has held tuition rates flat for Pennsylvania resident students.
