Students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre participated in a service project on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to honor King’s life and legacy. The campus joined with the Wilkes-Barre NAACP, O’Donnell Law Firm, the Wilkes-Barre Health Department, and the Friedman Jewish Community Center to assemble blankets and collect canned goods that will be donated to Keystone Mission, Ruth’s Place and Sarah’s Table.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre supports numerous local organizations through the United Way of Wyoming Valley, which funds 27 programs through 18 agencies to help children and adults in the region.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre has named 152 students to its fall 2023 Dean’s List. To be eligible, undergraduate students must achieve a one-semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Students, faculty and staff across all Penn State campuses will now have free access to virtual technology programming provided by the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania (TCCP), thanks to a newly expanded partnership with TCCP spearheaded by Penn State Harrisburg, a longtime member of the council.

Kristen Durso’s road to her own success started with Student Success Services (SSS) at Penn State Wilkes-Barre 15 years ago. Now that Durso’s career has brought her back to Penn State Wilkes-Barre, she has found that many things remain, including the welcoming atmosphere and the helpful services provided by SSS.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre recently hosted a special event to recognize faculty and staff who are published authors. The Authors’ Reception was held in Nesbitt Library and honored those who published works from 2020 to 2023.
Local education professionals, police and public safety units had the opportunity to take part in an eight-hour threat and response training held at Penn State Wilkes-Barre in December. Faculty, staff and police from Penn State's Hazleton, Schuylkill and Wilkes-Barre campuses were among those in attendance.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre and Arts at Hayfield were recently honored by the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce with an award honoring their partnership. The new Regional Collaboration Award, which celebrates those who are using collaboration for the betterment of the area, was presented to representatives of both the campus and Arts at Hayfield during the Chamber’s annual dinner.
