Penn State Wilkes-Barre Volleyball Falls to DuBois and Scranton in a Tri-Match

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-4) volleyball team lost two heartbreaking matches against Penn State DuBois and Penn State Worthington Scranton, Saturday afternoon in the Athletic and Recreation Building. The Lions lost to Dubois, 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 18-25, 25-20, 12-15) and again to Scranton, 3-2 (26-24, 11-25, 22-25, 25-20, 5-15). Against PSU-Dubois, Senior Abby Collins led the way with 13 service points and added seven digs. Sophomore Sarah Konopki had five kills and freshman Olivia Lewis had 13 assists.

Wilkes-Barre Soccer Loses at Brandywine

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-3) soccer team found itself in an early hole for the third straight game and was unable to come back, falling at Brandywine, 4-1, Saturday afternoon. Rob Hadvance was the only offense for the Lions, scoring a second-half goal to get his team on the board. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be looking for their first win against Penn State Schuylkill Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Penn College Too Much for PSU Wilkes-Barre

Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-2) fought a good battle against a top-notched Penn College team in their home opener. However, in the end they came up short in their 1-6 conference loss Wednesday afternoon. Things appeared to be going Penn College's way throughout the game, especially with the shutout they had going, until sophomore Mark Bugelholl notched a goal. With a little over ten minutes left in regulation freshman David Cavalieri found Bugelholl for a score to finally put the lions on the board.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Opens Season With Third Place Finish

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre golf team placed third out of eight teams at their first invitational of the season hosted by Penn State Mont Alto. Freshman Will Fulton finished tied for third place with a 78 among the 46 golfers in attendance at Penn National Golf Course. Junior Matt Boozer shot an 82 to finish 7th and sophomore Jeff Heath shot an 86 to finish tied for 10th. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be on the green again when they host the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. next Tuesday.

Leandri Wins First Race of the Season

Alex Leandri, defending her 2011 PSUAC Women's Cross Country Championship, won the first race of the 2012 season at Penn State Worthington-Scranton on Saturday afternoon. She finished the 6k race with a time of 27:00.  Wilkes-Barre freshman Emily Pszeniczny finished third overall in the women's race, and sophomore Chris Monahan finished fourth in the men's race.  The first men's team in school history finished third out of seven teams. Wilkes-Barre's next meet is at home on Saturday, October 3rd.

Soccer Falls to Conference Opponent York

Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-1) opened up conference play Saturday afternoon with a 1-3 loss at Penn State York. Penn State Wilkes-Barre got on the board with a first half goal by freshman David Cavalieri and an assist by sophomore Mark Bugelholl. Goalie Anthony Aquilina played a solid game, recording ten saves; unfortunately, the team couldn't put together enough offense to come up with the win. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Penn College for a 4:00 p.m. start.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Offer Annual Homecoming Football Bus Trip

On Saturday, October 6th, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Constituent Society is offering a bus trip to Beaver Stadium in State College to watch the Penn State football team take on the Northwestern Wildcats, kicking off at 12 noon. The bus will depart from the Penn State Wilkes-Barre gym parking lot at 7a.m. and will return to campus around 8p.m.

Lions Fall to Falcons in Their Home Opener

The Penn State Wilkes Barre (0-1) Women's Volleyball team didn't start off the season the way they anticipated. They dropped a non-conference match Wednesday night to Lackawanna College (1-0) in three sets with scores of 11-25, 16-25, and 15-25. Chelsea Wertz led the way for the Lions with eight service points and five assists. Sarah Konopki compiled three aces while Abby Collins and Tiffany Denny-Rochester both added five service points respectively.

Eury Resigns As Assistant Soccer Coach

Dave Eury has resigned as Assistant Soccer Coach to pursue another opportunity outside of coaching. "We wish Dave the best of luck as he received a tremendous opportunity that he could not pass up," said Director of Athletics Brian D. Stanchak.  A search for Coach Eury's replacement will begin immediately. The Mountain Lions open up their season away on Thursday, September 6th at 6:30pm against the Misericordia University JV team.
