Penn State Wilkes-Barre to hold annual Zombie 5K Run to benefit THON

LEHMAN, Pa. — The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Benefitting THON Committee will be holding its annual Zombie 5K fun run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event is open to the public and registrations are now being accepted.

“We have continued this Zombie 5K as a great pre-Halloween event to bring both campus and community members together for a good cause,” said Student Activities Coordinator Jackie Warnick-Piatt. “This annual event is meant to be both fun and scary! All proceeds go to support the Four Diamonds at the Hershey Medical Center, supporting Pediatric Cancer Research.”

For those who pre-register, the fee is $20 and includes a free t-shirt. Same-day registration is $25, with Zombie 5K t-shirts available for an additional $10 (while supplies last). The course is both runner and walker friendly and does not have a time restriction, although “The Running Dead” will be following participants during the event.

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, known as THON, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. A yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer, THON has raised more than $147 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital since 1977.  THON 2020 will take place from Feb. 21-23, 2020, at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center.

In anticipation of THON 2020, Penn State Wilkes-Barre students are inviting the local community to celebrate both the THON and Halloween spirit. The Zombie 5K will begin at 10 a.m. on the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus with registration beginning at 9 a.m.

Please note: Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the Zombie 5K. For more information and to register, visit wb.psu.edu/zombie5K.
