DALLAS, Pa. — Local high school students will exhibit their artwork during the sixth annual High School Art Exhibit at Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Friedman Art Gallery. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public every Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except during holiday breaks, opens Dec. 5 and will run through Jan. 31.

For the exhibit, local high school art teachers were asked to select and submit some of their best student artwork. The Friedman Art Gallery will display more than 60 examples of original local high school student artwork in the following categories: two-dimensional drawings and paintings; photography; and three-dimensional artwork. Participating schools include Lake-Lehman, Crestwood, Dallas, Wilkes-Barre Area Creative and Performing Arts Academy and Sue Hand’s Imagery.

In conjunction with the opening of the exhibit, the campus will host a “Celebration of the Arts” and holiday concert by the Wyoming Valley West Chamber Strings. The event will take place on Dec. 5 from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Academic Commons Barry Auditorium. During the program, the musicians and artists in attendance will be introduced. This event is open to other local high school artists, family, friends and the campus community. After the program, light snacks and drinks will be provided.

The Friedman Art Gallery was a gift from Sidney and Pauline Friedman as part of the Abram Nesbitt Academic Commons, which opened in 2008. The gallery regularly displays the works of students, local artists and private art collections.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre strives to promote, encourage, and exhibit artworks of professional and amateur artists from its campus and surrounding communities.
