Prospective Student Athletes

Penn State Wilkes-Barre is a member of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and competes for national championships as a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The USCAA also provides student-athletes with the opportunity for academic and athletic All‑American honors.

We support the following intercollegiate athletic teams at Penn State Wilkes-Barre: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s soccer, and women’s volleyball. Visit the Penn State Wilkes-Barre athletics website to learn more about our programs and follow our teams.

Baseball

Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s men’s baseball team is led by head coach Jason McManus, who is a former Penn State Wilkes-Barre student and baseball player. Coach McManus has had a long coaching career, including coaching little league and high school baseball. Coach McManus coaches alongside assistant coaches Jacob Claypoole and Rian Long, who is a former Penn State Wilkes-Barre player and an athletic department assistant.

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre baseball team was the 2019 No. 1 seed in the PSUAC conference playoffs.

Men’s Basketball

Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s men’s basketball team is led by head coach LeShawn Hammet. Coach Hammet has gone on to lead the men’s team to two USCAA National Championships, and in 2019 he was named the USCAA National Coach of The Year. Coach Hammet has had longstanding success in his coaching career as he recently celebrated his 200th coaching win. Coach Hammet works alongside associate coach Reneard Harris, Jr. and assistant coaches Javin Mitchell, Mike Riddle, and Trevon Artis-Randolph.

Women’s Basketball

Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s women’s basketball team is led by head coach LeShawn Hammet, who has found much success coaching Penn State Wilkes-Barre teams. He is ably assisted by assistant coach Will Oliphant. The women’s basketball team achieved four conference wins in the 2023–2024 season.

Men’s Golf

Penn State Wilkes-Barre's men’s golf team is led by coach Ed Kiel. Coach Kiel is a graduate of Penn State Wilkes-Barre and an Air Force veteran. With over 30 years of coaching golf at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Coach Kiel has also worked with youth golf and women’s golf programs.

Success stories for the Penn State Wilkes-Barre golf team include Josh Brown, who in 2023 tied for 1st at blue course at University Park, shooting one under in the first PSUAC golf match of the season; and Cooper Kelly, who finished one stroke behind to lead Penn State Wilkes-Barre in the PSUAC. Our men’s golf team have won three individual state titles and have had 119 golfers named all-conference or all-state. The Penn State Wilkes-Barre golf team also excels academically, with over 144 players being named Academic All-Conference.

Men’s Soccer

Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s men’s soccer team is coached by coach Joe Domino. Coach Domino has over 25 years of experience coaching, holds a Class D coaching license from USSA through the University of Albany, and is a FIFA certified referee.

After not having a team in the 2023-2024 year, the soccer team has been busy rebuilding and is looking forward to getting back on the field this upcoming fall.

Women’s Volleyball
