As a student-athlete, you have a lot to juggle: Classes. Practices. Exams. Competitions. We want you to know that you have a team on campus focused on your success. The SAGE program (Student-Athletes Graduate and Excel) is specifically designed to enhance the academic, athletic, and social experiences of the student-athletes at Penn State Wilkes‑Barre. SAGE is about making sure you get the support you need to have the best possible experience while on campus.
How It Works
First, student-athletes participate in a series of weekly study hours, prompting them to consistently focus on their academic responsibilities and improve their study habits, both as individual students and as a learning community.

In addition, student-athletes engage in one-on-one meetings with an Athlete Advocate, who provides personalized support based on each student’s specific needs. This comprehensive approach ensures student-athletes assume an active role in their learning while also maintaining their team eligibility.
Importantly, the SAGE program builds and sustains interconnected relationships throughout campus. Student-athletes are encouraged to meet with faculty members to discuss progress in their courses. Further, various departments collaborate to ensure student-athlete success, including Advising, Athletics, Counseling, the Learning Center, the Library, Student Disability Resources, and Student Success Services. The SAGE program also facilitates peer interactions among student-athletes. Through group study hours, academic workshops, and fun extracurricular activities, students experience a sense of belonging and teamwork.
