Senior Information Sciences and Technology student Craig Simko will graduate from Penn State Wilkes-Barre on May 14.  Simko's diligence and hard work both in and out of the classroom landed him a full-time job with Extundo Innovations LLC, where he completed his internship, following graduation:

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Recognizes Advisory Board Chair's Efforts

Penn State Wilkes-Barre recently presented its outgoing Advisory Board Chair, Dr. Carol Sabatini, with a Nittany Lion sculpture in recognition of her service to the campus. A member of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Advisory Board since 1994, Dr. Sabatini received the Hayfield Award for Volunteerism for chairing a year-long University project to assess the needs of the campus in order to establish five-year goals in 1998. Serving as the Advisory Board Chair since 2009, she continued and strengthened her support of the campus.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Athletes Receive Honors

Penn State Wilkes-Barre recently recognized the achievements of more than 20 of its student athletes for excellence both on the playing field and in the classroom. Michael Buczkowski, a member of the men's basketball team, was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's (USCAA) Academic All-American Team.

On Wednesday, April 27, Penn State Wilkes-Barre held its annual Student Government Association Leadership and Athletics Awards Ceremony to honor the campus' student leaders and athletes.  The following awards were presented at the ceremony:

Summer Camp Scholarships Available

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education is currently offering a limited number of scholarships for students wishing to attend the campus' Summer Youth Programs. The scholarships, underwritten by Procter & Gamble's Live, Learn, and Thrive Program and the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Constituent Society, help defray the costs of attending the camps at Penn State Wilkes-Barre this summer. The scholarships will cover the cost of the camp tuition and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis for those who qualify.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Celebrates Academic Excellence

Penn State Wilkes-Barre held its 22nd annual Celebration of Academic Excellence ceremony Thursday, April 21. Sponsored by the Department of Academic Affairs, more than 30 students received various awards for exemplary academic performance and high achievement. Penn State Wilkes-Barre Students Go Solar

Junior and senior electrical engineering technology students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre recently spent time in their EET 497: Special Topics course studying the principles of renewable energy conversion and its sustainability. Their studies include turbo-machinery, hydro power, wind power, solar power, fuel cells, biomass, nuclear power, and geothermal energy resources. Taking a hands-on approach to learning about solar energy, students examined solar panels, how they work, and how they can adjust a panel's position for optimum energy production.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Faculty Member Named Outstanding Teacher

The Penn State Engineering Alumni Society (PSEAS) recently presented Dr. Jon Carson, Associate Professor of Engineering at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, with the 2011 Outstanding Teacher Award. According to the PSEAS website, the PSEAS Outstanding Teacher Award "recognizes and rewards outstanding engineering educators for excellence in teaching and for contributions to the art of teaching. These teaching awards are established to confer honor on individuals whose inspiration and contributions to learning are truly memorable."
