Chancellor Dr. Charles Davis is proud to announce Dr. Albert Lozano-Nieto has accepted the Director of Academic Affairs position at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
"As a campus, we are extremely pleased to have someone of Dr. Lozano's stature not only as a faculty member but now as a campus leader," says Davis. "Albert is a very accomplished academic - both in the classroom and through his research. He is a focused on the success of our students and I am confident in his ability to move our campus programs forward."
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team defeated North Division rival Penn State Hazleton, 77-64, in a first round PSUAC playoff game on Monday night to advance to the Final Four. Junior Jared James led the way for Wilkes-Barre scoring 15 points. Senior Frank Peters contributed 11 points to the win, while freshmen Jacob Bronder and Denzel Mensah each added 10 points for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre will head to Mont Alto on Friday, February 24th to compete in the PSUAC Final Four, where they will take on Penn State Beaver at 6:00 pm.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team earned the 4th seed in the PSUAC standings to earn a home playoff game vs. Penn State Hazleton on Monday, February 20th. The game will be held at 7:00 pm in the ARB.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team triumphed over PSUAC rival Penn State Mont Alto, 77-31, in their final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon. Sophomores Tiffany Denny-Rochester and Molly Dincher led the way for Wilkes-Barre, each having a double-double. Denny-Rochester scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Dincher scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Sophomore Michele Vowler had 9 steals for Wilkes-Barre and she also put up 14 points. Freshman Aubrey Wargowsky contributed 13 points to the win.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team fell short to PSUAC rival Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday afternoon. After being down 26-34 at the end of the first half, Wilkes-Barre came back in the second half to outscore Mont Alto 26-21. Wilkes-Barre's valiant effort was not enough though, as they were defeated 52-55. Senior Matt Clemons scored 11 points for Wilkes-Barre, while senior Frank Peters and junior Travis Dunlap each added in 10 points. With the loss, Wilkes-Barre finishes out the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-5 in the PSUAC.

Junior Jared James provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, while senior Frank Peters added 11 points. Sophomore guard Keith Johnson led the Mountain Lions on the defensive end with 6 steals. Wilkes-Barre plays its regular season finale on Saturday, February 11th at Penn State Mont Alto before playing in the PSUAC playoffs.
The Penn State women's basketball team (9-12, 7-6 PSUAC) extended its season-long winning streak to four games tonight with a 67-61 win over North Division rival, Penn College. The win clinched a PSUAC playoff berth for the Lady Mountain Lions. Senior guard Michele Vowler paced Wilkes-Barre with 22 points. Junior Catherine Beach and sophomore Tiaira Brathwaite each added 13 points. Wilkes-Barre plays its regular season finale on Saturday, February 11th at Penn State Mont Alto, before playing in the PSUAC playoffs.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team won, 68-50, against PSUAC rival Penn State Worthington Scranton on Monday night. With the win Wilkes-Barre is now 8-12 on the season and 6-6 in the PSUAC. Freshman Aubrey Wargowsky was Wilkes-Barre's leading scorer with 15 points. Sophomore Tiara Brathwaite led Wilkes-Barre with 23 rebounds. Brathwaite also put up 13 points, giving her a double-double on the night. Wilkes-Barre will next head to the road to take on Penn College on Thursday, February 9th at 6:00 pm.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team (11-11 overall, 9-4 PSUAC) won a close contest with Penn State York on Saturday afternoon. Down 33-31 at the half, Wilkes-Barre battled back to take a 59-55 victory. Leading the way for Wilkes-Barre was senior Matt Clemons, who scored 13 points. Sophomore Keith Johnson added 11 points and freshman Drew Walker contributed 10 points to Wilkes-Barre's win. Wilkes-Barre's next game is at home on Monday, February 6th at 8:00 pm against Penn State Worthington Scranton.
