Continuing Ed announces first graduates of Corporate Communication Certificate

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education is celebrating the first group of graduates with the Introduction to Corporate Communication certificate.

The Introduction to Corporate Communication Certificate provides core competencies for the field of Corporate Communication. A series of five courses provide the foundation for effective communication in a corporate environment. Today’s business environment requires effective communication skills.

There is a focus on developing both oral and written communication skills through the Effective Speech and Business Writing courses. An understanding of effective media communications is gained in Mass Media and Society. Uses of technology as a tool in communication is explored in Introduction to Business Information Systems. Finally, important aspects of corporate communications are the focus of the course in Organizational Communication. A Penn State certificate is awarded upon successful completion of all five courses.

“Jo-Tina Crockett, Brenda Bitonti, Gossamer Farris and Christine Rhines hold the title of being our first graduates of this certificate,” explains Jane Ashton, director of continuing education. “All are full time employees at Navient in Wilkes-Barre.”

This certificate was delivered at the Northeast PA Industrial Resource Center in Wilkes-Barre by Penn State with the students completing their capstone project in December 2016.

“While this certificate is a comprehensive, introductory level of study in corporate communications, all courses seamlessly apply to the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Corporate Communication we offer on our campus,” states Ashton. “The Introduction to Corporate Communication Credit Certificate Program provides an excellent foundation in communication skills for those interested in the field of corporate communication.”

All four Navient graduates have two Penn State certificates completed, both the Corporate Communication and the Introduction to Business Management programs.
