New Faculty & Staff Welcomed For Spring Semester

Chancellor Charles Davis and Director of Academic Affairs Albert Lozano-Nieto are pleased to announce the addition of new faculty to Penn State Wilkes-Barre for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Dr. Dimitrios Bolkas joins Penn State Wilkes-Barre as an Instructor in Surveying Engineering. Bolkas received a Ph.D. from the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering from the Queen's University in Canada. Prior to moving to Canada, Bolkas completed the bulk of his doctoral work at the University of Texas. Bolkas's undergraduate education resulted in being awarded a Diploma in Engineering from the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. Bolkas has been a licensed surveyor in Greece since 2011, and during his time in Texas, he worked for Pacheco Koch Consulting Engineering as a surveyor.

"We are extremely happy and excited about having somebody with Dr. Bolkas's vast experience joining our faculty," said Dr. Lozano-Nieto.

John Owens joins Penn State Wilkes-Barre as Nesbitt Library's new Information Resources and Services Support Specialist. Owens comes from the University of Miami, where he worked for a decade in the Music Library. John will be the face of the Nesbitt Library's circulation and reference desk, responsible for course reserves, book orders, and overall library well-being.

"We are delighted to have found someone with experience and enthusiasm that John brings to his work here," explains Head Librarian of Nesbitt Library, Jennie Knies.  "His commitment to excellent customer service is unparalleled, and although he has only been here since the end of October, it is difficult to imagine life here without him. During his short tenure he has already streamlined our procedures regarding acquiring course reserves and has proven to be efficient and creative while assisting students on our desk. John is also technologically-savvy, and we hope to involve him more in some of our new tech endeavors."
