Students from Penn State Wilkes-Barre are furthering their knowledge of dolphin communications and cognition this week as they study the mammals in native and protected habitats along the Florida Keys. This trip is part of the Penn State Honor Program led locally by campus faculty members, Mrs. Theresa Clemente and Mr. William Bachman.
While in the Keys, students will have the opportunity to observe first hand dolphin cognition with regard to color, quantity, visual, and verbal command. Students will also participate in classroom activities at the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon, Florida. Each student has also chosen a personal topic relative to the Florida habit of dolphins that they will research while on their trip and report back to the entire campus community in April during the campus's Celebration of Scholarship.
