Virginia Woolf wrote a play to be performed at a birthday party to an audience of family and friends. Though she never intended to publish the play, it was, indeed, published in 1976. Since then the play has been performed a number of times both by amateur and professional actors, most recently in an off-Broadway production this winter. But why should there be a new edition now?
