Penn State Wilkes-Barre Annual Scholarship Dinner Held

On Wednesday, October 17th, Penn State Wilkes-Barre honored 80 students who were awarded scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year at the annual Scholarship Dinner held at Appletree Terrace. This year, Penn State Wilkes-Barre awarded 260 students approximately $530,000 in scholarships.

In addition to students, approximately 35 scholarship donors also attended the dinner. Students were given the opportunity to mingle with their donors during dinner and be able to personally thank them.

"I cannot tell you how many times I have heard alumni reflect on how their college education and subsequent success would not have been possible without the support and influence of caring individuals that made their education and direction in life a reality," Anthony Shipula, Penn State Wilkes-Barre Director of Development stated in his remarks. "To our scholarship and award donors: you are making dreams come true."

Amy Scafella, a senior business major and Struthers Family Trustee Scholarship recipient addressed the group on behalf of all the scholarship awardees. As the program guest speaker, Richard K. Struthers '77, Penn State Wilkes-Barre donor and Advisory Board member, addressed the group on the importance of following your dreams in higher education at Penn State. Earlier in the day, Ric & Sharon Struthers broke ground on the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus for the Struthers Family Career Services Center, slated to begin construction in the upcoming weeks.
