Penn State Wilkes-Barre Welcomes New Career Services Coordinator

Chancellor Dr. Charles Davis and Director of Student Affairs Kathie Flanagan-Herstek are pleased to announce the addition of a new staff member to Penn State Wilkes-Barre.

Jill Laing joins the Penn State Wilkes-Barre staff as the newly appointed Career Services Coordinator. Jill will be serving the immediate career-related needs of students and alumni, including career counseling, résumé-writing assistance, and interview preparation in the soon-to-be-built Struthers Family Career Services Center.

Ric and Sharon Struthers have pledged $1 million to Penn State Wilkes-Barre to build and furnish the new Career Services Center. The center's physical facilities will be located in a renovated and expanded section of the Athletics and Recreation Building. Among its features will be a state-of-the-art Career Information Center, three interview rooms, a video interview room, and a conference room.

"I would say the part of this job that I am the most excited about, outside of my interaction with the students, will be seeing the new career services center coming together," said Laing. "I'm excited to be a part of this new chapter in Penn State Wilkes-Barre's history."

Laing, originally a Florida native and a graduate of both Teachers College and Florida State University, currently lives with her husband and son in Kingston and is very much looking forward to becoming part of the local community, both on and off campus.

"Penn State, as a whole, provides students with such wonderful opportunities, and I'm looking forward to becoming more involved with the students through the campus life," explains Laing. "I'll also be participating this year in Leadership Wilkes-Barre, which I'm thrilled about. The better I get to know the local community, the more prepared I can be to help meet the students' needs."

Penn State University is committed to equal opportunity and diversity in both its employees and students.
