On Tuesday, October 28th, Penn State Wilkes-Barre will offer a Psychological and Emotional Trauma Course at both the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus in Lehman as well as the Penn State Northern Tier in Towanda. The one-day course, will run from 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and has a $69 registration fee.
This course is designed to provide those attending with increased understanding of psychological and emotional trauma, including who develops traumatic symptoms and why, what do these symptoms look like, and how do they affect daily living. Some of the current treatment modalities for trauma-induced conditions will also be discussed. Outcomes of the course include: recognition of symptoms of trauma, knowledge of who develops trauma symptoms and why, understanding of the effects of trauma symptoms on the individual and their daily living, and familiarity of select modes of treatment for trauma.
Sara Grier, course instructor, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with 15+ years of experience in the mental health field and counseling. Sara's counseling and psychotherapy experience includes sexual abuse (both offender and victim) and processing the painful effects of trauma. Her experience includes disorders of mood, anxiety, depression, adjustment, and personality in both adults and children. She has been presented on trauma on local television as well as local women's business events. Sara is currently licensed in both Pennsylvania (LCSW) and Ohio (LSW).
Penn State is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage, and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors to provide continuing education courses and programs for these professions.
