Penn State Wilkes-Barre's TRIO Student Support Services office recognized the program's scholars and graduates at its annual End of the Year Celebration on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Apple Tree Terrace in Dallas.
The TRIO programs (Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math/Science, Veterans Upward Bound, Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program) provide valuable supportive services to students from first generation and working families to help them successfully enter college and graduate.
TRIO Coordinator Patricia Staskiel presented certificates and awards to the program's students.
"We are so very proud of our students and graduates," said Staskiel. "They are active and involved members of our campus community who have experienced great success here at Penn State Wilkes-Barre."
TRIO SSS scholars recognized were: Ruby Amigon [Wilkes-Barre], Jonathon Aston [Harveys Lake], Emily Barber [Noxen], Ben Barnett [Milford], Kyle Brogan [Avoca], Katelyn Dzikowski [Pittston], Theodore Frear [Factoryville], Michael Gentile [Harding], Jensen Healey [Tunkhannock], Aaron Holton [Dalton], Shakur Jackson [Elkins Park], Kevin Katchko [Sweet Valley], Heidi Kile [Nanticoke], Erin Maloney [Falls], Laura Miller [Tunkhannock], Vincent Munro [Clarks Summit], Nicolas Oldziejewski [Wilkes-Barre], Lance Sherry [Tunkhannock], Dean Stewart [Milford], Dalton Tomko [Shickshinny], and Tyler Weiss [Monroe Township].
TRIO SSS graduates preparing to graduate May 9th include: AJ Bevan [Tunkhannock] and William Dankwah [Falls Church].
TRIO Student Support Services at Penn State Wilkes-Barre serves 160 students and has been an important part of the campus since 1997. The TRIO SSS staff of Staskiel, Gail Stevens [Academic Counselor], Patricia Arcangeli [Administrative], Heather Paris [Career Advisor], Marilyn Olenick [English/Writing] and Anson Carter [Mathematics] coordinate a variety of support services for students. Support services include: academic advising, tutoring, personal and financial counseling, career counseling, assistance in applying to graduate programs, and community building events.
