On Saturday, January 30th, Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be holding their first "Dance On, Fight On Benefiting THON" Zumba event.
The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, affectionately known as THON, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. THON, a yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer, has raised more than $127 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital since 1977. THON 2016 will take place from February 19th - 21st, 2016 at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center.
In anticipation of THON 2016, Penn State Wilkes-Barre students are inviting the local community to help the fight against pediatric cancer by dancing! Check-in for the event begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Student Commons building at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus, located on Old Route 115 in Lehman, PA. There will be three hour-long Zumba classes to choose from at this event — 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. By registering, you can go to one class, two classes, or even all three! Snacks, refreshments, and raffles will also be available.
"Since a big part of THON weekend consists of dancing, we thought this Zumba-THON event would be a great way to bring both campus and community members together in a way that is similar to the real THON weekend," explains Penn State Wilkes-Barre THON Chair, Bethany Dennis. "The event is a great way to have fun and burn off some of those holiday calories, while raising awareness for the organization!"
Participants can register in advance online for $12, or at the door for $15. Please note: Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire duration of the Zumba-THON. For more information and to register, visit wb.psu.edu/danceonfighton.
