Penn State Wilkes-Barre is preparing to welcome students for the 2024-25 academic year. Several events have been planned for the beginning of the semester to welcome new students and facilitate camaraderie and conversations among students, faculty and staff.
Applications are now being accepted for the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania (TCCP) Women in Mentoring program. Students, faculty and staff across all Penn State campuses have free access to virtual technology programming thanks to a partnership with TCCP spearheaded by Penn State Harrisburg, a longtime member of the council.
At Penn State Wilkes-Barre, each individual’s interests and abilities are nurtured to help the student achieve their full potential. For some students, that means adding more challenges to their academics by joining the honors program at the campus. The program focuses on sustainability and what that means to the campus and the broader world.
At Penn State Wilkes-Barre, students have opportunities to help finance their education through part-time work. In this story, we connect with two students who started their professional learning through workplace experiences at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
If you are feeling “board” this summer, check out Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Nesbitt Library on Aug. 1 and 2, Librarians will hold the first of what they say they hope will become an annual board game convention. It is open to all Wilkes-Barre staff, faculty and students and any library employees across the commonwealth, as well as members of the local community, at no cost. Volunteers interested in teaching games are also welcome.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre Friedman Art Gallery is hosting a new solo exhibition by artist Seth Ellison entitled “Lost in Paradise.” The exhibit, which will feature a variety of Ellison’s paintings, runs from Sunday, August 18, through Tuesday, Oct. 29, and is free and open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For 40 years, Penn State Wilkes-Barre has hosted thousands of community members for events put on by Arts at Hayfield, a nonprofit organization that supports the arts in the community and on campus. That tradition continues with the 38th annual Summer Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, featuring more than 120 artisans, performers, crafters and food vendors.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host Spend a Summer Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7. The event is an open house where interested students can visit the campus and learn about the opportunities available to them close to home.
Working remotely and from in-person sites at the Harrisburg and University Park campuses, teams spent three focused days in June attending workshops and webinars, collaborating with coaches and each other, as they worked on their projects related to student success and providing opportunities for students in the higher education space.
