Sidney and Pauline (”Pauly”) Friedman and their children, Robert Friedman and Anne Friedman‑Glauber, have been long-time supporters of Penn State University, particularly the Penn State Wilkes‑Barre campus. Their donations established both the Friedman Observatory and the Friedman Art Gallery at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s observatory recently observed an stellar event and shared data with NASA for use on a future mission to an unexplored region of the solar system.
A Penn State Wilkes-Barre student and faculty member participated in a NASA workshop in Virginia this summer. Students from around the country came to learn how to build a data-acquiring rocket payload.
As a spring-board for additional research, the project demonstrates what can be done by students who have an interest in setting their sights on the night sky.
