Business Program

As a Penn State Wilkes-Barre business major, you’ll engage in internships where you’ll gain real-world experience by being immersed in day-to-day business operations.

The Bachelor of Science in Business (B.S.B.) is a professionally oriented business degree program that combines the theoretical underpinnings of core business disciplines, notably business analytics, management, marketing, finance, and supply chain management, with applied study in a practical setting. Students develop written and oral communication skills, acquire contemporary technology proficiency, and engage in active and collaborative learning throughout the program. The BSB program gives students skills that are very sought after by prospective employers, among them team building, critical thinking and problem solving.

The B.S.B. program requires the completion of an internship program before graduation. This internship is an excellent opportunity for enriching the academic experience by immersing students in small or large business. The internship and the degree program familiarizes students with the unique business environments of their local communities, a design that sets the degree apart from other business degrees offered within the University and throughout the Commonwealth.

Business Degree Options

The B.S.B. program at Penn State Wilkes-Barre offer four tracks, or options, to provide the opportunity for additional specialization tailored to your career interests and goals. Through the choice of an 18-credit option, students will specialize in a key business sector. The four options available at Penn State Wilkes-Barre are the Management and Marketing Option, the Business Analytics Option, the Individualized Business Option, and the Accounting Option.

Management and Marketing Option

The Management and Marketing option has a dual focus. First, it helps students develop skills in managing employees in efficient and effective ways, as well as skills for successful strategic management and business planning. Secondly, students gain mastery of marketing topics such as market intelligence, product decision making and communication strategies. These two areas of emphasis give students a solid foundation for leading small business or units of large organizations.

Business Analytics Option

The Business Analytics option prepares students to pursue careers in applying business analytics techniques to facilitate data-driven decision-making for companies.

Individualized Business Option

The Individualized Business option provides the student with the opportunity to design, with approval from their adviser, a business-focused interdisciplinary program of study that fits their specific interests and career goals.

Accounting Option

The Accounting option focuses on developing and interpreting the financial information that is critical for decision making in today’s business environment. It prepares students to pursue careers in business with an emphasis on the areas of financial and managerial accounting, systems and controls, auditing, and taxation.

Smeal Conditional Early Acceptance Program

Are you interested in partnering with the Penn State Smeal College of Business to pursue a master’s degree in accounting or taxation? Smeal’s Conditional Early Acceptance (CEA) program is a two-year pathway to earning an accounting-related graduate degree immediately following your post-baccalaureate studies. The program does not require a deposit and is open to Penn State undergraduates who are currently in their junior year and are majoring either in accounting or in business with an accounting option at University Park or another Penn State campus.
