Summary of Benefits

There are many reasons to choose to participate in Honors at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, and the benefits increase as your level of participation increases.


Level 1 - Honors Courses benefits include:
  • Honors Designation - All honors courses taken will be designated with an "H" on your transcript.

  • In-Depth Subject Exploration - You will be able to explore subjects more deeply than is normally provided in a standard course.

  • Faculty Interaction - Many honors courses are limited-size seminar-type classes, which allow for more debate and discussion. Each individual is able to voice opinions, share information, and work one-on-one with the professor.


Level 2 - Honor Society benefits include all of the above, plus:
  • Recognition - You will receive an annual Honor Society certificate.

  • Priority Registration - You will be able to register before other students, ensuring that you can get into the courses you want or need.

  • Special Library Privileges - You will enjoy the same library privileges as your professors: you can borrow books for an extended period of time, borrow an unlimited number of books at the same time, and request special library holdings.

  • Academic Flexibility - You can take advantage of special opportunities such as specialized academic advising, independent studies, and undergraduate research.

  • Extracurricular Opportunities - You will be able to participate in free extracurricular events, seminars, lectures and travel.

  • Used Computer Eligibility - You will have the opportunity to purchase used computers from the university.

  • Incentive Scholarships - You will be eligible to apply for Honors Incentive Scholarships.


Level 3 - Honors Program benefits include all of the above, plus:
  • Certificate - You will receive an annual Honors Program certificate.

  • Incentive Scholarships - You will be given greater consideration for Honors Incentive Scholarships.


Level 4 - Schreyer Scholar benefits include all of the above, plus:
  • Schreyer Scholar designation on diploma.

  • Schreyer Scholars Medal awarded upon graduation.
