‘Frederick Douglass Project’ free virtual event to be held Feb. 8

Emmy Award-winning actor Keith David will deliver a dramatic reading of a speech by the legendary 19th-century American abolitionist in “The Frederick Douglass Project.” The one-time virtual event will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, via Zoom. It is co-presented by the Center for the Performing Arts and Theater of War Productions. The program is free, but registration is required.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre alumnus receives Alumni Association award

David Hoffman, class of 1981, Penn State Wilkes-Barre alumnus and longtime volunteer, received the 2022 Penn State Alumni Association Kay and Ernie Salvino Volunteer of the Year Award. He was honored during a special awards recognition ceremony as part of the fall meeting of the Penn State Alumni Association Alumni Council.

Celebrating the arts at Penn State Wilkes-Barre

After a two-year hiatus, the annual High School Art Exhibit will resume for its fourth year from Dec. 8 through Jan. 31. The work of local high school artists will be on display during an upcoming exhibit at the Friedman Art Gallery at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. There is no cost to attend, and the gallery is open to the public.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre plans entrepreneurship events

Penn State Wilkes-Barre will offer several events during Global Entrepreneurship Week, held this year from November 14-18. Global Entrepreneurship Week connects community members and aspiring entrepreneurs with Penn State’s vibrant ecosystem of investors, researchers and startup champions. GEW Penn State will host presentations, workshops and networking opportunities geared specifically to entrepreneurs, local startups and innovators throughout the state. The events are free and open to the public.
