The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team lost to Penn State Brandywine, 51-73, in the first round of the PSUAC playoffs on Tuesday night. Junior Catherine Beach was Wilkes-Barre's leading scorer, putting up 15 points for the team. Sophomores Michele Vowler and Tiara Brathwaite each added 12 points for Wilkes-Barre. Brathwaite also pulled down 15 rebounds, giving her a double-double. With the loss the Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team ends their 2011-2012 season.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre Surveying Engineering students Tyler Shelly, Eric Bogumil, Alex Wood, Ryan White, Eric Hillard, and Ryan Little were honored at the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS) Annual Conference in January with awards of general PSLS scholarships.
Scholarships in varying amounts up to $3,000 are awarded to Pennsylvania students in two- or four-year surveying degree programs based on academics, extracurricular activities, future plans, and academic advisor recommendation.
On Monday, February 20th, Penn State Wilkes-Barre welcomed Robert Smith, Director of the Center for Ethics & Religious Affairs at Penn State, who presented "Making Ethical Decisions" to students, faculty and staff.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team upset #1 seed Penn State Beaver 86-83 in the Final Four of the PSUAC Championship on Friday night in Mont Alto. Down 35-42 at the half, Wilkes-Barre came out strong to outscore Beaver 51-41 in the second half to take the victory. Freshman Denzel Mensah paced the way for Wilkes-Barre, scoring 16 points and grabbing 6 steals. Junior Jared James put up 14 points for Wilkes-Barre, while senior Frank Peters and sophomore Keith Johnson each added 12 points in the win. Peters also pulled down 9 rebounds for Wilkes-Barre.
As the 2011-12 Penn State Laureate, Linda Miller has been crisscrossing the Commonwealth sharing her enthusiasm for the humanities with a wide variety of audiences, including students, faculty, staff and friends of Penn State campuses. In her travels, Miller, a professor of English at Penn State Abington, shares her knowledge of and passion for American writers and artists of the early 20th century.
Chancellor Dr. Charles Davis is proud to announce Dr. Albert Lozano-Nieto has accepted the Director of Academic Affairs position at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team defeated North Division rival Penn State Hazleton, 77-64, in a first round PSUAC playoff game on Monday night to advance to the Final Four. Junior Jared James led the way for Wilkes-Barre scoring 15 points. Senior Frank Peters contributed 11 points to the win, while freshmen Jacob Bronder and Denzel Mensah each added 10 points for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre will head to Mont Alto on Friday, February 24th to compete in the PSUAC Final Four, where they will take on Penn State Beaver at 6:00 pm.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team earned the 4th seed in the PSUAC standings to earn a home playoff game vs. Penn State Hazleton on Monday, February 20th. The game will be held at 7:00 pm in the ARB.
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team fell short to PSUAC rival Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday afternoon. After being down 26-34 at the end of the first half, Wilkes-Barre came back in the second half to outscore Mont Alto 26-21. Wilkes-Barre's valiant effort was not enough though, as they were defeated 52-55. Senior Matt Clemons scored 11 points for Wilkes-Barre, while senior Frank Peters and junior Travis Dunlap each added in 10 points. With the loss, Wilkes-Barre finishes out the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-5 in the PSUAC.
