Jennie Levine Knies, head librarian at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, and Timothy Sichler, instructor in engineering, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, were recently awarded a $2,037 Teaching Project grant from the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence.
On Friday, July 10th, The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Constituent Society hosted its 20th Annual "Masters" Golf Tournament at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club in Mountaintop. The tournament raised approximately $6,000, used to support a variety of programs for Penn State Wilkes-Barre students including the Student Mentor Program, Academic Excellence Awards, THON, and other student initiatives.
To be eligible for Dean's List, undergraduate students must achieve a one semester grade point average of at least 3.5. The following students were named to the Spring 2015 Dean's List at Penn State Wilkes-Barre:

Beginning August 18th, Penn State Wilkes-Barre will begin hosting four seven-week SAT preparation course sessions for those students interested in taking the SAT exam for the 2015/2016 dates. Penn State Wilkes-Barre, in cooperation with Cambridge Educational Services, Inc., offers high school students an opportunity to raise their score on the SAT, and instructs students in proven test-taking strategies to help them realize their full potential on the test.
On July 1, 2015, Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Megan MacGregor will be stepping into a new role, as Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian. Since 2010, Megan has served the University Libraries and the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus as an Information Resources and Services Support Specialist, and over the years has far-exceeded her formal responsibilities, most notably by stepping in to fill a gap left by a vacant Head Librarian position in 2014.
"I was very lucky to find a position that required the exact skills I attained from Penn State Wilkes-Barre," explains recent IST graduate of Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Robert Carey. "I was able to take way more courses than were needed for graduation, and even took an optional course twice for fun. I found that it was a really good idea to work on projects outside of class and talk with my instructors, who were always more than helpful, to get feedback."
On Thursday, April 30th, the Department of Academic Affairs at Penn State Wilkes-Barre held their 26th Annual Celebration of Academic Excellence. The following students were awarded honors at the ceremony.
On Thursday, August 6, 2015 and Friday, August 7, 2015, Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education will offer a course in Computational Methods in Stormwater Management. The two-day course will run from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. each day and has an early bird (June 2, 2015) registration fee of $950.00 per person. After June 2, the full registration fee is $999.00 per person-deadline to register is July 3, 2015. Registration fee after July 3, 2015 is $1,049.00 (if space permits).
Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education is currently accepting registrations for its sixth Women in the Sciences and Engineering program (WISE) running August 4th - 6th. Funded by Procter and Gamble's Live, Learn, and Thrive grant that is offering 12 young women a chance into the program at no cost on a first come, first served basis. Students are asked to request a teacher's recommendation for entry into the program.
