HR Bootcamp for the Non-Business Professional

These workshops are designed for business professionals that do not have a background in Human Resources, but are responsible for some or all HR functions within an organization. Students may be Owners, Managers/Supervisors, Financial Officers, etc. Throughout these workshops, students will gain insight into policies, procedures, and “best practices” for human resources.  They will learn about HR laws and regulations, labor relations, types of employees, workplace environment, hiring and keeping good employees, and much more.

About the instructor: Matthew Burr has almost a decade of experience working in the human resources field and is the founder and President of the HR consulting firm, Burr Consulting, LLC.  His education includes a master's degree in Human Resources & Industrial Relations, a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification, and both the SPHR and SHRM-SCP.  He is an Adjunct Professor teaching Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management.  He is also a SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management) Certification Exam and SHRM Exam Prep Course Instructor.  Matthew is an on-call Mediator and Fact-Finder through the Public Employment Relations Board in New York State.  He is a published author with articles in the Cornell HR Review and Business Insider.

Compensation and Benefits

Understanding an organization’s compensation and benefits package can be a challenge, but even more difficult if you are the individual responsible for its’ administration. The focus of this program is on understanding compensation and benefits in the workplace. All organizations have different benefits and perks they offer, we will focus on a high level review of what different benefits looks like in various organizations. We will also cover all laws and regulations that directly impact compensation and benefits.

Talent Management

Finding and keeping highly skilled employees ranks as one of the top challenges among most employers. This program deals with all aspects of “talent management,” including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews. The material will be reinforced via a series of quizzes, what if scenarios, mock interviews and discussion questions.
