Awards ceremonies recognize achievements

The conclusion of the spring semester is an exciting time at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, with several award presentations for students, faculty and staff. Read more about those awards and their recipients in the following stories.

Celebration of Scholarship

Penn State Wilkes-Barre held the Celebration of Scholarship (COS), an annual research fair at the campus, on April 8. The event gives students the opportunity to present their current research, scholarship and artistic endeavors. This year’s event featured 33 posters created by 56 student participants, with 22 faculty, staff and community judges evaluating the submissions.

Outstanding Adult Learner

Jonathan Kelly, a fourth-year student at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, was honored during the 36th annual Luzerne County Council on Adult Higher Education (LCCAHE) awards ceremony for adult learners held on April 29. The LCCAHE sponsors this awards ceremony to recognize the contributions and achievements of an outstanding adult learner at each member institution, including Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Misericordia University, King’s College, Luzerne County Community College and Wilkes University.

Academic Achievement Awards

Penn State Wilkes-Barre held its 36th annual Celebration of Academic Excellence on May 1, presenting academic college and program awards and other accolades to students who have excelled in their academic endeavors. Awards included the President Sparks Award, the President Walker Award, the Evan Pugh Scholar Award, the Samuel Valick Administration of Justice Award, Honors Program awards, college academic achievement awards, and program academic achievement awards.

SGA Leadership Awards

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Student Government Association (SGA) held its annual Leadership Awards Ceremony on April 24 at The Greens at Irem Clubhouse, presenting campus awards and honoring outstanding student leaders at the campus.

Dean‘s List

Penn State Wilkes-Barre has named 129 students to the dean’s list for the spring 2025 semester. To be eligible, undergraduate students must achieve a one-semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre recognized employees who marked milestone anniversaries and presented special awards to faculty and staff during its annual spring meeting held on campus on May 9.
