IST Minor

The IST minor provides a program for Liberal Arts and Engineering students to study Information Technology, an important aspect of any career. This program builds an understanding of core information technologies and related areas of study, preparing students for the practical application of technology in the workplace. Participants in the IST minor sharpen their ability to think critically, work in teams, and apply classroom knowledge within the context of an Information Sciences and Technology environment. The IST minor is the perfect supplement to any major.

IST Minor Enrollment

A one-time, non-refundable tuition surcharge [$750] will be applied to all students enrolled in the minor, even if they do not complete the minor. A grade of C or better is required for all courses in this minor. Penn State Wilkes-Barre students must complete the IST Minor Application to be considered for the IST minor.

IST Minor Requirements

Requirements for the minor: 19 credits

Prescribed courses (10 credits, semesters 1–6):

  • IST 110 (4 credits)
  • IST 210 (3 credits)
  • IST 220 (3 credits)

Additional courses (9 credits, semesters 5–8):

  • Select 3 credits from IST 250 (3 credits), IST 301 (3 credits), or IST 302 (3 credits)
  • Select 6 credits from IST 402 (3 credits), IST 431(3 credits), or IST 432 (3 credits) [Note: Students will be permitted to repeat IST 402 to satisfy this 6-credit requirement.]
