August 18–October 25, 2024
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Friedman Art Gallery is hosting a new solo exhibition by the artist Seth D. Ellison entitled “Lost in Paradise.” Seth Ellison is a Philadelphia-based painter and multimedia artist. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia in 1984 and lived mainly in the southern United States before moving north to attend graduate school. His formative years were spent compulsively drawing in preparation for a future career as a Walt Disney animator, a period in his life that deeply impacted the paintings he does today.
Ellison received his B.F.A. from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009 and then an M.F.A. in 2012 from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Both degrees had a concentration in painting and studio art. He has also studied graphic design at Concord University and was accepted into the SCAD Lacoste program, a residential study-abroad program in France offering immersion in the history and culture of Provence.
Ellison has exhibited his artwork in Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, as well as international venues including Busan, South Korea, and London, England. He states that his work “…reflects my personal experiences based on my upbringing in the rural South. I revive and express the region’s struggles and contradictions, interweaving my narrative within its sociological mythology.”
The Friedman Art Gallery exhibit features a variety of his paintings and runs from Sunday, August 18 through Friday, October 25, 2024, and is open to the public on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
