Campus Care Team

If you are worried about a student’s immediate safety you should contact Penn State Wilkes‑Barre Police Services at 570-675-9111 or dial 911.

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus Care Team is comprised of staff members representing a variety of areas of support on campus, including Tracy Garnick, Heather Paris, Meredith Cosgrove, and Gail Stevens. The team’s mission is to identify students in distress as early as possible and assist them with challenges such as academic issues, personal health or wellness issues, financial challenges, housing challenges and displacement, and with other issues or concerns that have an impact on their persistence and academic success. The Care Team will connect students to available support services on campus and within the local community. This will be a coordinated approach, providing support with case management.

The Care Team depends upon referrals from campus faculty and staff who work closely with our students. The team meets regularly to assess referrals and review ongoing cases. If you are concerned for a student’s well-being, please fill out the Student Care Referral Form below.

Penn State offers a variety of other support resources for helping a student in distress:

  • The Red Folder initiative is a guide to help faculty, staff, and others who interact with students to recognize, respond effectively to, and refer distressed students at Penn State. Hard copies of the Red Folder are available to faculty and staff by contacting the Student Affairs Office (570-675-9279).
  • The Behavioral Threat Management Team is committed to the safety and well-being of the University community. The BTMT manages all referred incidents and other processes related to threat analysis. You may make a referral to the BTMT through the University website or by contacting the Penn State Wilkes-Barre BTMT chair, Tracy Garnick.
  • Counseling Services. You can contact Tracy Garnick or Meredith Cosgrove to make a referral or discuss a student concern.
