New collaboration expands educational opportunities in Pennsylvania

Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses and the state’s community colleges have announced a new collaboration aimed at expanding educational opportunities in Pennsylvania and removing barriers to degree completion among college students. The collaboration builds upon long-standing relationships between the campuses and the community colleges and a shared commitment to access and affordability in higher education.

Young entrepreneurs benefit from programming through Penn State Wilkes-Barre

Penn State Wilkes-Barre and its LaunchBox are supporting entrepreneurship beginning at the high school level through programming and partnerships in the region. This year’s Teen Entrepreneurial Challenge includes five sessions of business mentoring and coaching, led by Penn State entrepreneurship educators and local small-business leaders.

Wilkes-Barre faculty member receives Geospatial Professor of the Year award

Dimitrios Bolkas, associate professor of surveying engineering at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, received a leadership award during an industry conference for his work with virtual reality. Bolkas, who is the coordinator of the surveying engineering program at the campus, was presented with the Younger Geospatial Professional award during the Geo Week conference in Denver, Colorado.

Summer camps announced at Penn State Wilkes-Barre

Penn State Wilkes-Barre is offering numerous camps this summer for children and youth through its Office of Continuing Education. Two weeks of camp are offered, with Week 1 scheduled for June 24 to 28 and Week 2 set for July 8 to 12.

Wilkes-Barre students advocate for Penn State at state Capitol

Students from Penn State Wilkes-Barre joined a contingent of others from across Pennsylvania for the annual Capital Day event in Harrisburg on March 18. More than 200 Penn State students in total spent the day at the state Capitol to meet with legislators and advocate for the University’s annual state appropriation.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre to host solar eclipse viewing party April 8

Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Friedman Observatory will hold a solar eclipse viewing party on April 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. The event, which is open to the public, offers a unique opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts and curious individuals alike to experience the celestial phenomenon. Free solar eclipse glasses, essential for a safe viewing experience, will be provided while supplies last.
