Women's Basketball Team Preview

The Lady Mountain Lions, under the leadership of new head coach Ron Strothers, have been preparing for the 2013-14 season. Strothers says, "This year's team is young with five freshmen on the squad. The team has been working hard so far and I am happy with their effort, we also return several upperclassmen that will be relied upon for leadership."

Stanchak Named PSUAC Men's Cross-Country Coach of the Year

On Saturday, Penn State Wilkes-Barre's third-year Head Coach, Brian D. Stanchak, was honored by the PSUAC conference by being named Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. This season the men's team won the first PSUAC conference team championship in school history.

Fundraising cycling trip for THON

Tyler Knabb of Reading prepares for his 920-mile, eight-day cycling trip to raise funds for the 2014 Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. He will start his quest Oct. 22, traveling in a heart-shaped route through Pennsylvania that will take him to 11 Penn State campuses.

Cross Country Strong at LCCC Meet

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Cross Country headed to compete at the Luzerne County Community College meet on Saturday. In the women's race, Ashley Oliver finished third, while Emily Pszeniczny and Azalee McAlpine finished fourth and eighth overall.  In the men's race, Jason Carey finished first, while Chris Monahan finished fourth, Dave Yunkunis sixth and Shane McCrory seventh. The team's next meet is at the PSUAC Championships next Saturday, October 19th, at Penn State Worthington-Scranton.

Women's Volleyball Loses to Penn College

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's volleyball team (1-11) lost their match against Penn College with a final score of 3-0 on Thursday night. The Lady Mountain Lions host a quad match on Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m.

Two Golfers Honored for Academics

Junior Zachary Aciukewicz and senior Matthew Boozer were both honored at the PSUAC/USCAA National Championships on Tuesday afternoon for their success in the classroom. Zachary and Matthew were both named as USCAA Academic All-Americans. Congratulations to both student-athletes!

Gallery Opening Being Held For Joseph Opshinsky

Artist Joseph Opshinsky, a University of the Arts and Keystone College graduate, is now displaying his work at Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Friedman Art Gallery. Showing pieces publicly since 2004, Opshinsky has been awarded serveal honors in recent years. Joseph's ten pieces displayed in paper media interpret the environs in and around his hometown of Scranton.
