New Student Orientation
All new first-year students to Penn State must participate in New Student Orientation (NSO). At NSO, you will meet with faculty and staff, begin to develop goals for your time at Penn State, learn about campus resources, and schedule courses for your first semester. Before proceeding with your required NSO steps, you must activate your Access Account (email from identity [at] psu.edu). This may be different from the Friends of Penn State (FPS) account you created to apply to Penn State, and action is required on your part. Please check your email accounts regularly for NSO information.
Once you activate your Access Account, NSO is a four step process:
- Take your ALEKS Math Assessment
- Complete your Educational Planning Survey
- Do your Pre-NSO Homework
- Attend New Student Orientation
Submit your immunization records
Penn State University requires all degree-seeking students to be immunized against measles, mumps, and rubella and to submit this information online. Students are also encouraged to complete an online Health History form. Follow these Instructions for reporting immunization and health history online.
Welcome Day is designed to help new students acclimate to Penn State Wilkes-Barre and the college experience before classes begin. Watch for email and postal mail notifications.
Penn State no longer sends paper bills. Bills are e-mailed to your Access Account (your Penn State e-mail address), which you set up when you attend NSO. The first bills go out in mid-July. Billing continues on a weekly basis for students scheduling after mid-July. Payment options are explained in that e-mail, and any financial aid awards are shown as a credit. Bottom line: A minimum one-third payment on your balance will be due three weeks after the billing date.
When Do Classes Start?
Classes begin Monday, August 22 for the Fall 2016 semester.
