Women in Sciences and Engineering (WISE)

Created at Penn State in 1994, The WISE Institute represents an innovative approach to cross-disciplinary interaction among engineers, humanists, scientists, and social scientists to promote the representation and diversity of women in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The primary mission of the WISE Institute is to facilitate the entry and success of women in the STEM fields in an environment promoting gender equity by coordinating our efforts throughout Penn State; creating opportunities for women of diverse backgrounds to thrive in the STEM fields; mentoring individuals; and promoting institutional and cultural change.

8th Annual WISE Camp: Emerging Technology

This program is open to 15 young women entering grades 6-8 in the fall!

Students Will:

  • Start by building and programming Lego Robots to complete challenges
  • Experience cutting edge virtual and augmented reality experiences with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive
  • Use Microsoft Hololens to experience a mixed reality environment
  • Build circuits and program them with the Arduino Uno Micro Controller
  • Discover and explore career opportunities in the STEM field with Career Services Coordinator Maureen Ciliberto
  • Begin thinking about post high school planning with Admissions Counselor Leslie Livingstone

All students will take home a kit to continue building and programming!

Dates: July 18-20, 2017
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (lunch will be provided each day)
Cost: $30 per student
