Penn State Wilkes-Barre hosted the Northeast Regional Science Olympiad on March 6, once again bringing hundreds of middle and high school students to the campus for the annual science competition.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre is offering numerous camps this summer for children and youth through its Office of Continuing Education. Two weeks of camp are offered, with Week 1 scheduled for June 24 to 28 and Week 2 set for July 8 to 12.
Dimitrios Bolkas, associate professor of surveying engineering at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, received a leadership award during an industry conference for his work with virtual reality. Bolkas, who is the coordinator of the surveying engineering program at the campus, was presented with the Younger Geospatial Professional award during the Geo Week conference in Denver, Colorado.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team is heading back to the USCAA Basketball Small College National Tournament again this year. This year’s tournament kicks off Sunday, March 10, in Petersburg, Virginia.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre students Gabriela Gronkowski, a junior corporate communications major, and Andrew Zimmerman, a junior majoring in information technology, are dancers for this year’s THON, a 46-hour dance marathon that benefits children fighting cancer. The event will be held Feb. 16-18 in the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park.
A new student art exhibit is now open at Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Friedman Art Gallery. The exhibit, which runs through March 29, features artwork by independent students and students who were enrolled in diverse Penn State Wilkes-Barre courses.
