During the winter months, severe weather conditions may necessitate the closing of the Wilkes-Barre campus, either for part of the day or for the entire day. At other times, weather conditions may cause a delayed opening, resulting in a compressed schedule for the day. A compressed schedule means that classes that normally begin before mid-afternoon will meet later but be shorter, in order to ensure that all classes can still meet.
In the event of a delayed opening or campus closure during finals week, an alternate final exam schedule will take effect.
Even when the entire campus is not affected by inclement weather, at times an individual faculty member will need to cancel his/her class. Individual class cancellations can be viewed on the campus web site, along with any special instructions for the students.
Continuing Education programs (credit courses, workshops, seminars, or contracted programs) take place in a variety of locations in northeastern PA, not just on the Wilkes-Barre campus; therefore, a campus closing does not necessarily mean a cancellation of off-campus Continuing Education offerings. The Inclement Weather Policy for Continuing Education will help you determine the status of their individual programs.
