Idea TestLab, a program sponsored by the Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton and Lehigh Valley LaunchBoxes, has contributed to the success of two growing small businesses. An opportunity for members of the community to explore the viability of their business ideas, the program is starting a new, virtual session in the fall, at no cost.
Janelle Drach has been hired as director of campus development at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Lynda Goldstein announced.
The University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) began its new term for the 2023-24 year on Aug. 1, with new leadership, committee chairs and 12 new members joining the slate of existing council members.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host a “Spend a Summer Day” open house on campus Wednesday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. for prospective students to learn about becoming a Penn Stater. The University College at Penn State is the collective administrative umbrella for 14 of Penn State's campuses distributed throughout the commonwealth. A key area of the college is the records office, located at the University Park campus, where work is done to help support the successful graduation of students and assistance of faculty and staff across the 14 campuses.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre has appointed a head baseball coach for the 2023-24 season — and he is no stranger to the campus. A former student-athlete at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Jason McManus coached the baseball team from winter 2013 to spring 2016 and brings more than 18 years of experience to the Mountain Lions as returning head coach.
Steven Qarmout, who recently completed his first two years of study at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, has been accepted into a scholarship and leadership program at University Park. Qarmout also received a scholarship from a national forensics organization.

Penn State University Libraries presented its sixth annual "Undergraduate Research Award: Excellence in Information Literacy" honors at the end of the spring 2023 semester to 136 students at 20 undergraduate Penn State campuses.
Members of the community are invited to attend the 37th annual Arts at Hayfield Summer Arts Festival, which will be held on the campus of Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will feature more than 120 artisans, performers, crafters and food vendors from across Pennsylvania and will take place rain or shine.
