Professional Development for Educators

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education offers a variety of post-baccalaureate courses and other professional-development opportunities designed to meet the continuing education goals of educators. Penn State is an approved provider of Act 48 continuing education, and we deliver courses all year long. Classes run in the evenings and during summer sessions, with both blended and online delivery formats. We provide the most up-to-date educational experience for our area, covering topics such as educational technology integration, classroom management, inclusion and differentiated instruction, special education, and more.

Remote Teaching: Tools, Tips, and Hints

This four-hour workshop was designed to help educators meet the ex­cep­tional challenges they are facing due to the Covid-19 pan­dem­ic. The class will provide basic skills in tools any educator can use right away for remote teaching. De­liv­ered via Zoom video­con­fer­enc­ing.

Postbaccalaureate Credit Courses for Educators

Does your school district require you to pursue professional development? Are you looking for Act 48 credits in your educational focus? Penn State is an approved Act 48 provider, and our post­bac­ca­lau­reate courses cover a wide range of current topics in education. Courses are delivered remotely through a combination of classes via Zoom and online assignments.

Teaching Writing and Literacy Certificate

The Writing Specialist Certificate is designed to afford educators deep study in all aspects of teaching literacy. It provides the teacher with real-world skills for im­ple­ment­ing the writing requirements of the PA Core Standards.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

The English as a Second Language Certificate (ESL) offers an innovative program for educators who wish to be ESL-certified instructors in Pennsylvania. Upon completion of this accelerated 15-credit (5 course) certificate program, you will have gained 15 credits towards a PDE Instruction Level II certification and satisfied PA Act 48 requirements.

M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum

The core courses of Penn State Harrisburg’s 30-credit Master of Education in Teaching and Curriculum are delivered online. Many of our education courses transfer into that program, so why not sign up for one today and get a jump on your Master’s?
