The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Honors Program provides a means for motivated students to enrich their general education and to deepen their specialized preparation for employment or graduate study. As an honors student, you will have fewer restrictions and more open doors. You will have more encouragement and the flexibility to creatively realize your potential. Penn State Wilkes-Barre Honors is a rigorous, yet rewarding, experience that combines in-class achievement with out-of-class achievement—academic success with personal success. It’s this merger that makes our program such a unique experience and of incredible value to students.
If students qualify, they may also pursue a special honors degree as Schreyer Scholars in the Schreyer Honors College at University Park.
In addition to succeeding and performing in the classroom, honors students participate in a variety of cultural and personal enrichment activities, such as volunteering, fund-raising, supporting diversity programs, and experiencing different cultures and economies. Some past events include trips to Toronto, Montreal, Williamsburg, Washington DC, and New York City, just to name a few. In the spring of 2019, the Honors Program traveled to London—the group’s first international venture.
