SolidWorks Essentials course announced

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Continuing Education will be offering a new SolidWorks Essentials course for the Fall 2016 semester.

The SolidWorks Essentials (32 PDHS) course is designed to provide the participant with the tools necessary to comprehend the SolidWorks design and modeling environment. Topics include: understanding the user interface, sketching, relations, reference geometry, solids creation methods, adding features, 2D drawing development, dimensioning and annotating drawings, working with assemblies and documentation. Anyone who is planning to transition into or has recently started working in a 3D or parametric CAD environment, such as engineers, designers, pattern makers in product developments, or product manufacturing are encouraged to take this course. 3D CAD platforms are preferred by many industries and manufacturing designers. SolidWorks is also used to develop 3D printing (additive manufacturing) projects.

SolidWorks Essentials will be taught by Kendra Tomassacci. Tomassacci began her career as a student of Engineering Design & CAD Technology in high school and completed a bachelor’s of science degree in computer-aided product sesign at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Tomassacci’s industry experience includes such notable companies as Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., ICON Industrial Construction and G&B Specialties. She is a full time faculty member at Penn College of Technology at the School of Engineering & Industrial Design Technology. Tomassacci also uses her credentials as a longtime associate SolidWorks professional to teach Workforce Development and Continuing Education classes for industry partners upgrading to 3D parametric design programs.

SolidWorks Essentials is being offered as a four-week course beginning from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 and running each Saturday through Nov. 12. Cost is $875.00 per person and includes the textbook. A special early bird discount of $825.00 per person is being offered to those who register by Sept. 16. Course registration deadline is Oct. 12.
