Who Can Sit for the Exam

The PMP® certification is highly recommended for experienced project managers. Candidates must meet the educational and experience prerequisites detailed below, agree to a professional code of conduct, and pass the PMP® exam.

The educational and experience requirements can be met in one of two ways:

  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, Associates’ degree, or equivalency); and
  • a minimum of 5 years of non-overlapping project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects; and
  • 35 hours of project management education.

     – OR –

  • Four-year degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalency); and
  • a minimum of 3 years of non-overlapping project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects; and
  • 35 hours of project management education.
