Survey Technician - Sheffler & Company, Inc. Sewickley, PA Office

Job Summary:

In support of client requirements, the Survey Technician performs boundary resolution using deed descriptions, field surveys, and aerial imagery. Conducts deed research, plots property surveys for surface, coal, and/or oil and gas tracts. Verifies pooled units, mineral/surface boundaries, and vestment.

Job Responsibilities:

Plots property chain of title outlined in assigned Title Opinion, identifying all outsales and/or issues with the property boundaries.

Conducts research using client-run software and/or county-run sites to locate deeds and tax records, review tract location on GIS site; retrieves additional information as needed.

Reviews subject tract boundaries to check for any errors in bearing or distance calls; makes general calls when possible to best reflect property boundaries.

Resolves subject boundaries using deed descriptions, field surveys, and aerial imagery for weekly to bi-weekly submittals; reviews with senior-level surveyor.

Additional duties may be required.  

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should have 1 – 3 years of office, or educational, experience in boundary resolution. Familiarity with reading and interpreting property surveys to accurately and efficiently plot boundaries using Drafting Software (AutoCAD Civil 3D).
 
Ideal candidate should be proficient in the use of office Drafting Software (AutoCAD Civil 3D).

Candidates must display excellent communication, analytical, and organization skills, and perform well in a group environment.

Survey Engineering Graduates – Department of Transportation, North Carolina

The Location & Surveys Unit of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is involved in surveying and mapping for most major highway projects in the state. We are not afraid of new technology; we implemented Subsurface utility location and GPS in the early 90’s, static LiDAR in the early 2000’s, mobile Lidar before 2010, and multi-frequency Sonar in 2012. We are presently involved in helping our construction personnel through building design models for automated machine guidance. Our sister unit, Photogrammetry, is involved in other aspects of mapping through aerial photography and aerial LiDAR. We have been and continue to be involved in activities with our state Geodetic Surveys Department, and are very involved in the state’s development and implementation of the 2022 spatial reference frame. We are regarded highly among the state highway associations as one of the leaders in surveys and mapping.

We are in need of some new Survey Engineering graduates and presently have five positions open across the state. We have an Engineering training program in which we hire recent engineering graduates (predominately Civil) and expose them to most aspects of NCDOT over an 18-month period. Eligibility js based on specialized surveying degree, interest, and commitment to working in our unit. We would manage the 18 months while the student worked in the office where he or she would be assigned.

The salary schedule for the 18 months (based on today’s rates) is:

3 Months — $47,663
6 Months — $48,845
9 Months — $50,056
12 Months — $51,161
15 Months — $52,429
18 Months Completion — $53,728

Includes the standard benefits package of vacation/sick leave and insurance.

Licensed Surveyor – Independence excavating, Mid-Atlantic

Independence Excavating, a regional leader in site development is looking to fill the position of a licensed Surveyor at its Mid-Atlantic office.   This position is 90% field based and will work at multiple project sites. Specific responsibilities include providing topographic, cross-section surveys, and quantity calculations as well as preparing documentation of surveying activities.
